Manipal: Indian Thanksgiving

As an American, Thanksgiving is just a natural part of life, the beginning of the holiday season, a time for family and friends. I didn’t realize until I was abroad for Thanksgiving, how uniquely American it really is. Not that I would have expected any different, but it was odd to see my friends updating their Facebook pages referring to “Thanksgiving” break, when it was just another regular day of class for me.

The Alliance and our Study Abroad Program wanted to make the occasion special for us. We ate Indian food that was absolutely delicious, after a Thanksgiving boat ride around the lake (cover photo) with the Chancellor, Dr. Ramdas M. Pai, of the University. The dinner was served at the boat house, where special guests who visit the University are entertained.

It was a yummy dinner, with plenty of food (in true American fashion) and delicious desserts of fruit and gulab jamun. It was a great evening to spend with my family, in my Indian home-away-from-home!
